General Information
Jesus said to his followers: "As the Father sent me, so send I
you." So just as Jesus came into the world with love and compassion for those
who did not yet know God, so should we. A primary distinctive of our church
family since its inception has been it warm, caring atmosphere and
relationships. We are a congregation where people are welcomed and loved.
Ours is a church orthodox in doctrine (we affirm the great creeds of
Christendom). We are evangelical in persuasion (we believe people can come to
know God personally through faith in Christ). Finally, we seek to be balanced
in purpose and ministry, focusing on Celebration (worship), Communication
(sharing our faith), Community (loving one another) and Cultivation (growing
spiritually).
Our musical worship style is decidedly contemporary. Though we do not ignore
the great hymnody of the past, our focus has a more contemporary ring to it than
a traditional one. The preaching in our services aims at teaching and applying
the Bible which we believe to be relevant as well as reliable.
We are also committed to building community via small groups and committed
ministry teams here at Agawam Church. Our goal is that we be a church of small
groups not just a church with small groups.
Agawam Church is located in the greater Springfield area in Western
Massachusetts. Springfield, itself, is a city of approximately 150,000 people
and is surrounded by several smaller towns of 10,000 to 40, 000 people. Agawam,
where we are located, is one of those towns. Agawam is located just North of
the Massachusetts-Connecticut border and is therefore easily accessible to
towns across Northern Connecticut as far South as Hartford.
We currently have one Sunday Service held in the auditorium of the Junior High
School. We have refreshments and an adult discussion following in the Junior
High cafeteria and also have access to the gym and several classrooms where our
Children's Church and Good News Gang meets during our second hour. Our present
attendance is averaging around 125 - 150.
Agawam Church has great potential for ministry in the days ahead. If you are
moving to our area or just around for the weekend, you are more than welcome to
visit. Our prayers are that God will use us to reach those who are lost and
build up those who have been found - throughout the Pioneer Valley, Northern
Connecticut, New England and the world!
